Why it’s on the route
Heritage was founded by Michael and Melissa Salvatore as a bike shop and café in one, in a 1901 building on Lincoln Avenue with wood floors, exposed beams and reclaimed-wood tables. Coffee is served up front, while the bike shop at the back builds custom frames, and Heritage says it was the first company to manufacture bicycles within Chicago city limits since Schwinn closed in 1982. Heritage now serves coffee it roasts in Chicago.
