Why it’s on the route

Pinhole Coffee opened in Bernal Heights in 2014, founded by JoEllen Depakakibo, a Filipina-American barista who came up at Intelligentsia and Blue Bottle. It has been a multi-roaster shop, opening with Verve espresso, Blue Bottle drip and Tandem pour-overs. The space keeps the original Douglas fir floor of an 1890s butcher shop, with benches along one wall, a rainbow-striped mural and rotating shows by local artists.
