Why it’s on the route
Equator is a women-founded roaster started by Brooke McDonnell, who first roasted in her Mill Valley garage, and Helen Russell; in 2011 it became California's first B Corp-certified coffee company. It roasts in San Rafael and owns its own farm, Finca Sophia. The bright red roadside café at Tam Junction has a laid-back surf-shop feel, and a Colombia Las Flores Pink Bourbon won a Good Food Award in 2026.
