Why it’s on the route

Pachamama is a coffee company owned by farmers: five cooperatives in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru, representing some 140,000 smallholders, govern it and roast their own coffee in Sacramento. Its cafés rotate through single-origin coffees from those member co-ops as pour-overs and espresso drinks, and the J Street shop in East Sacramento is one of its local bars.
